Communication with the spirits of ancestors and holy people is an important part of the process of accumulating hidden knowledge. Sufism is, in essence, knowledge of the totality and integrity of all being, and hence the Sufi dervish strives for the restoration the integrity of each person as the key means of healing him or her of illnesses and wrongdoing.
